As a new school year looms in the horizon, Laredo Community College offers various sections of a short-term, non-credit course in substitute teaching for persons interested in beginning careers or enhancing their skills in this field of education.
Three sections of the Substitute Teacher course will be offered, including August 4 and 5, August 9 and 10, and August 11 and 12. Each course section will meet from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The cost to enroll in each course is $32.
Participants will be introduced to the role of the substitute teacher. They will know how to identify student needs, and learn about behavior modification, classroom management and school personnel relations. The course will also cover the development of skills relating to human growth, childhood and adolescence.
The instructor will be Jose Rico, an educator with more than 20 years of teaching in high school and college settings.
Registration is underway at the LCC Admissions/Registration office, located in University Hall, room 125. Office hours are Mondays through Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, contact the LCC Community Education Department by calling 721-5374.
