The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education has once again named Laredo Community College one of America’s Top 50 community colleges to graduate Hispanics. The prestigious distinction was announced in the recent publication of Hispanic Outlook’s “2004 Publisher’s Picks,” an honor roll of America’s top Hispanic-serving colleges and universities.
The honorary list—which highlights institutions of higher learning from across the country—is featured in the November 29th issue of Hispanic Outlook, a journal dedicated to covering issues which impact Hispanics in higher education.
“This has been a tough year for higher education. Endless budget cuts…and more make us feel at best, unappreciated, and at worst, under siege. It is thus a welcome relief and great pleasure for The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education to present its Publisher’s Picks, a list of colleges and universities with a solid record of recruiting, enabling and graduating Hispanic students,” says HO Publisher Jose López-Isa.
“Bravo to all the institutions…that are giving a high priority to student success,” says López-Isa.
LCC President Dr. Ramón H. Dovalina says that the rankings validate the mission of LCC and the new LCC South campus to deliver a quality college education to the citizens of Laredo and the South Texas region.
“Laredo Community College is truly honored to once again earn such a notable distinction from Hispanic Outlook,” says Dovalina. “As a two-campus college district located in a predominantly Hispanic community, these rankings reinforce our commitment to shape lives for a prosperous future.”
During the 2003-04 academic year, Hispanic students accounted for 94.44 percent, or 10,944, of the total LCC student population of 11,588.
