LCC students promote voter awareness
A Laredo Community College student organization registered more than 200 voters during a five-day voter registration drive held on campus August 24-26 and August 30-31.
LCC’s student chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society conducted the non-partisan voter registration drive in the Kazen College Center lobby. LCC students, faculty, staff and the public were encouraged to participate.
“The Phi Theta Kappa Chapter at Laredo Community College is proud of the success achieved to promote the importance of the right to vote,” said PTK Co-Sponsor Jose D. Compean.
Locally, LCC is working in partnership with the “Yes, I Will Vote!” Coalition, a non-partisan group consisting of media outlets, educational institutions and the Laredo Chamber of Commerce.
LCC is also working on the national level in association with Phi Theta Kappa and the Project Vote Smart organization to offer a comprehensive non-partisan voter awareness campaign. The goal is to increase voter awareness among two-year college students who may be registered or non-registered voters. Voter registration drives are among the initiatives that the national project encourages PTK chapters among America’s community colleges to host for the benefit of students and community.
