LCC helps LISD meet federal mandate

As the region’s leading provider of workforce education, Laredo Community College recently responded to the training needs of the Laredo Independent School District.

In an effort to get a head start on a 2006 deadline concerning the No Child Left Behind Act, LISD initiated an innovative training program, Treasuring Our Paraprofessionals, to train the district’s instructional aides.

The goal of the training was for the instructional aides to meet the “highly qualified” requirement of the federal mandate.

Today, LISD can boast that it has 460 instructional aides who are considered “highly qualified.”  Of that total, 321 paraprofessionals recently achieved the highly qualified distinction through training provided by the LCC Continuing Education Department.  An additional 67 instructional aides are in progress of complying with the mandate

“The success that the Laredo Independent School District has achieved is another example of Laredo Community College’s commitment to the workforce training needs of Laredo and South Texas,” said Blas Castaneda, Chief Development Office at LCC.

The LCC Continuing Education Department provides an array of short term career building and personal enrichment courses.  Additionally, contract training is available to meet the individual needs of businesses and organizations.

For more information, contact the LCC Continuing Education Department by calling 721-5374 or visit the college website at www.laredo.edu/ce.
