The Yeary Library is located in the center of the LC Fort McIntosh campus. It currently
houses approximately 84,541 bound volumes, 1,240 e-books titles (these e-books
can be accessed from the Yeary or Zaffirini Libraries) and receives 203 current
periodical subscriptions, and 72 online databases (which includes full-text
journal articles), making it one of the largest libraries in the region. The
Yeary Library is a service-oriented facility, providing trained reference staff
to answer questions when the library is open. During the fall and spring
semesters, the Yeary Library is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. –
9:00 p.m., on Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and on Saturday and Sunday
from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. for student and faculty research. The library is closed
on weekends during the summer. The collection's main focus is to support the
curriculum of Laredo College. Many popular resources in book,
magazine, and electronic format are available and are actively used.
The Yeary Library’s integrated library system
(ils), a product of SirsiDynix Corporation, is comprehensive and supports all
functions of the library. The library’s online public access catalog (OPAC) or
Discovery is used to look up holdings in the library. This system offers enhanced access and research capabilities to
students, faculty, staff, and community users.
The Internet can be accessed from every computer in the Library. The Library
Webpage (https://library.laredo.edu) is the starting point – with links to all of our online resources.
These online resources include databases with full-text articles. Also, there
are health-related databases, such as CINAHL. On the library webpage you can
find online encyclopedias and links to government web pages, such as U.S.
Census 1990, 2000, and 2010. EBSCOhost and GaleNet-Infotrac are large databases
that can be searched for a wide variety of academic journal articles. Each of
these databases contains different information.
TexShare, a service made available through
the Texas State Library, provides the Yeary Library with many of the online
resources that are listed on its webpage. At the library, students, faculty,
and staff can obtain a free TexShare card. This enables them to check out
materials from other TexShare libraries across the state.
The Circulation Services Desk houses a collection of "faculty
reserve" materials that are available for students. A Reference Desk is
also available where users are able to find answers to their research needs. A
photocopy machine is available for patron use. The library also offers an
Interlibrary Loan service free to all students, faculty, and staff. The Harold
R. Yeary Library is a complete full service facility that prides itself on its
students and faculty use, its capable staff, and its centrality to the mission
of the college. You may contact the Yeary Library by calling (956) 721.5816 or
721.5275.
Currently
the Yeary Library is under renovation. During the renovation the library will still
provide users with assistance in locating information and resources. Also the
library continue to offer specialized reference and research assistance,
lecture regularly to classes, and develop the library collections in their
subject areas.
