   D.D. HACHAR HONORS PROGRAM

The Laredo College Honors Program, established by the college in 1990, challenges highly motivated and intellectually gifted students who wish to attain an exceptional higher education to explore an academically rigorous curriculum and socially enriching program that is designed to create outstanding student leaders at Laredo College.

Our students come to the college well-prepared and are greeted by Laredo College faculty members with innovative, creative and challenging courses to further nourish their educational experience. The mission of the Laredo College Honors Program is to provide an inspiring, rigorous academic environment for students who are able and ready to accept the competitive challenge of higher education. The Laredo College Honors Program is committed to providing our students a progressive course of study that provides new challenges to their exceptional abilities, preparing them for advanced studies at major four-year institutions.

The Laredo College Honors Program has always attracted serious students in the pursuit of academic excellence and community involvement, and with a commitment to student leadership. Our faculty members are dedicated to presenting students with the most valuable of educational experiences in the most enriching and supportive environment available.

The Laredo College Honors Program is empowered by engaged faculty and enthusiastic students, who together cultivate an active learning environment that is always responsive to the changing needs of our society. The Laredo College Honors Program supports challenging coursework taught by faculty who serve as mentors to our students and create a community of scholars who share a common sense of purpose and spirit of collaboration.

It is the goal of the Laredo College Honors Program to encourage students to become outstanding, independent thinkers, as well as engaged student learners. This enables these students to master critical thinking skills and self-expression. Through the encouragement of faculty members, our students engage in productive teamwork, enabling them to master the life lesson of working collaboratively along with members of the college and local community.

Along with language skills, there is a concerted effort to enhance mathematical, scientific, and technological skills among our students. A higher degree of student participation and involvement in college and community activity is required. Laredo College Honors Program students are mentored by faculty and receive personalized degree plans for academic enrichment.

An important outcome as a result of participation in the Laredo College Honors Program is the acquisition of knowledge and the increased opportunity for these academically gifted students to graduate from Laredo College and transfer to a prestigious college or university of their choice. Upon completion of their Associate’s degree, Laredo College Honors Program graduates receive special designation on their transcripts and diploma and special recognition during the graduation ceremony.
