Texas Success Initiatives

   Program (TSI)

Texas Success Initiative exempts students based on two criteria that Laredo College will define as Exemption Level I and Exemption Level II. The Level I exemption is based on performance measures achieved by students on an assessment instrument approved by the Coordinating Board. Level II exemptions are based on conditions/situations that may change and/or vary. In addition, TSI allows institutions of higher education greater flexibility to adopt more stringent and appropriate assessment standards with respect to student readiness and their population.

Laredo College students who are exempt as the result of performance measures (Level I) will not be required further assessment and are considered College Level Ready when they achieve the standard score established by the Coordinating Board.

Effective SSI 2005, students can receive partial exemption when they achieve the composite score or total score along with the minimal subject score in that area.

The following National/State normed assessment instruments are approved by the Coordinating Board:

1.    ACT: Composite = 23; minimum score of 19 in Math and/or English (5 year limitation from test date).

2.    SAT Total score = 1070; minimum score of 500 in Math and/or Writing (5 year limitation from test date).

3.    TAKS English/Language Arts = 2200; WSAM 3+ and/or Math = 2200 (3 year limitation from test date).

4.    STAAR End of Course (EOC) English III = 4000/Level 2 and/or Algebra II = 4000/Level 2 (valid for 5 years from test date)

5.    Student with an A.A. or B.A. degree from an accredited college or university.
