Requirements:
·
A continuation of
1301, ENGL 1302 places greater emphasis on analytical and persuasive writing,
with writing assignments based on readings in fiction, poetry, and drama.
·
The course also
introduces students to effective research processes and documentation
techniques; one long research paper is required.
·
Demonstrate
proficiency in expository and argumentative writing
·
Identify, define,
and discuss the various elements of fiction, poetry and drama
·
Present a clear,
concise oral report
·
Write a minimum
of three papers of at least 400 words each based of the three genres
·
Write a research
paper with a minimum of 6 type written pages of a non-narrative,
non-biographical topic using a minimum of three sources each following the MLA
format

Format and Procedures:
This class primarily consists of reading assigned texts,
writing in response to reading, class discussion and group projects. The first few weeks will I will be lecturing
directly and directing class discussion.
Later in the semester the reading and class discussion will be directed
by the assigned groups. There will be
weekly reading quizzes as well as writing assignments.
IV. Course Requirements:
1. Attendance:
ONLINE STUDENT ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES
Responsibility for class
attendance rests with the student.
Students are required to
log in and participate in their respective online classes to remain enrolled.
Students will be dropped from the class roster by the instructor according to
College Attendance Regulations; however, a student may be reinstated by the
Vice-President of Instruction upon the recommendation of the instructor(s) and
an agreement from the student to make up all of the missed assignments, lab
times and/or tests.
Students will be dropped after being absent:
a. Students
will be dropped with a “W” for Unexcused
absences - failure to log-in to the course for 14 consecutive days.
b. A grade of "W" will be
given through the Friday of the twelfth week of the semester for all drops
initiated by the instructor or by the student.
c. After the Friday of the twelfth week
of the semester, a grade of "F" will be given for the course at the
end of the semester for unexcused absence.
d. The
instructor will drop an online student if they have never logged-in to their course
prior to the certifying the rolls – on the 12th Class Day.
a.Students
will be dropped with a “W” for Unexcused
absences - failure to log-in to the course for 7 consecutive days.
b. A grade of "W" will be
given through the Thursday of the fourth week of the summer session for all
drops initiated by the instructor or by the student.
c. After the official drop date of the
fourth week of the summer session, a grade of "F" will be given for
the course at the end of the session for unexcused absence.
d. The
instructor will drop an online student if they have never logged-in to their
course prior to certifying the rolls – on the 4th Class Day.
Students
have the right to initiate a drop request from any or all classes by informing
the instructor via email or phone and following this up at the Admissions/Registrar’s
Office.
Instructors will drop students in a
timely manner according to the College's attendance policy in order to comply
with the requirements of external funding agencies. It is the student's responsibility to ensure that a
drop slip be completed, whether it is student-requested or
faculty-initiated.
Absence from Final Examination: A student who is absent
from a final examination will earn a grade of "0" for the
examination. Students who do not take a final examination will earn an
"F" in the course, unless they present an authorization for the
absence. Students duly authorized not to take the final examination will
receive a grade of "F” or an Incomplete grade on
their transcript until they take the final examination. Such students must take
the final within four months of the initial exam date. A fee of $5.00
will be charged to a student for taking a final examination other than at
the scheduled time, regardless of the reason for absence. This fee
will be paid at the Bursar’s Office. Only students with a legitimate excuse may
exercise this privilege.
Final
examinations cannot be re-taken.

provided by the instructor or group members

(except the final exam) are

through WebCt.
These tests must be
taken in
class at the designated time or in a previously designated
location on campus.
d. Writing Assignments- All writing
assignments must be submitted
through
the WRITING ASSIGNMENTS section in WebCt. Late papers must be submitted through email.
e. Chat- this function will not be used as
part of the class, but students
may
utilize it to communicate with each other for academic purposes. Inappropriate language is prohibited in the
chat rooms.

*The
lowest test/essay score will be dropped. Essays or test that
were not completed will not be dropped.

Academic Integrity
Each student in this course is expected to abide by the

However, this
permissible cooperation should never involve one student having possession of a
copy of all or part of work done by someone else, in the form of an e mail, an

Should copying occur,
both the student who copied work from another student and the student who gave
material to be copied will both automatically receive a zero for the assignment. Penalty for violation of this code can also be
extended to include failure of the course and College disciplinary action.
During examinations,
you must do your own work. Talking or discussion is not permitted during the
examinations, nor may you compare papers, copy from
others, or collaborate in any way. Any collaborative behavior during the
examinations will result in failure of the exam, and may lead to failure of the
course and College disciplinary action.
