C= OURSE DESCRIPTION:  Safety must be discussed on first day of class meeting.

Introduction to Physical Fitness and Sports will provi= de Kinesiology majors with insight into the foundations and philosophy of the field of Kinesiology. The course will trace the history and origins of Kinesiology and track the changes that have occurred, including the empha= sis on movement as a keystone of the science of Kinesiology. Students will investigate the physiological, psychological, sociological, and biomechan= ical foundations of physical activity. The course will explore a variety of careers, both in school and non-school settings with people of all ages a= nd abilities, and describe the preparation necessary for a career in this dynamic field.

C= OURSE LEARNING OUTCOMES:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be = able to:

 

  1. Understand why Kinesiology is an important part of the educational process.
  2. Develop ones own philosophy of Kinesiology according to set guidelines.
  3. Understand, apply, and demonstrate what is meant by the cognitive, psychomotor, = and affective domains of education and how Kinesiology contributes to ea= ch.
  4. Trace and understand the historical implication of Kinesiology from the earliest times to present.
  5. Interpret and understand the various provisions of Title IX on Education.
  6. Understand and explain the implications that the biological natures of humans h= ave for a physically active existence.
  7. Understand and interpret what implications Kinesiology and sport have for personality development.
  8. Identify the value of the study of biomechanics for the physical educator, co= ach, and athlete.
  9. Understand, apply, and demonstrate what is meant by Motor/Health-Related Fitness= .
  10. Understand and interpret how the wellness movement has increased people’s awareness of their own health.

ONLINE STUDENT ATTENDANCE GUIDELINES=

 
Responsibility for class attendance rests with the student.

Students are requi= red to log in and participate in their respective online classes to remain enrolle= d. Students will be dropped from the class roster by the instructor according = to College Attendance Regulations; however, a student may be reinstated by the= Vice-President of Instruction upon the recommendation of the instructor(s) and an agreement from the student to make up all of the missed assignments, lab times and/or tests. 

           

Students will be dropped after being absent:<= /p>

  1. During a regular semester:=

a.      Students will be dropped with a “W” for Unexcused absences - failu= re to log-in to the course for 14 consecutive days.

b.      A grade of "W" will be given through the Frida= y of the twelfth week of the semester for all drops initiated by the instructor = or by the student. 

c.      After the Friday of the twelfth week of the semester, a grade of "F" will be given for the course at the end of the semes= ter for unexcused absence.

d.      The instructor will drop an online student if they have never logged-in to their course prior to the certifying the rolls – on the 12th Class Day.

 

  1. During a summer session:

a.Students= will be dropped with a “W” for Unexcused absences - failure to log-in to= the course for 7 consecutive days.

b.      A grade of "W" will be given through the Thurs= day of the fourth week of the summer session for all drops initiated by the instructor or by the student.

c.      After the official drop date of the fourth week of the summer session, a grade of "F" will be given for the course at the end of the session for unexcused absence.

d.      The instructor will drop an online student if they have never logged-in to their course prior to certifying the rolls – on th= e 4th Class Day.

Stu= dents have the right to initiate a drop request from any or all classes by inform= ing the instructor via email or phone and following this up at the Ad= missions/Registrar’s Office.

 

Instructors will drop students in a timely manner accord= ing to the College's attendance policy in order to comply with the requirements= of external funding agencies. It is the student's responsibility to ensure = that a drop slip be completed, whether it is student-requested or faculty-initiated.

Absence from Final Examination: A student who is absent from a final examination will earn a grade of "0" for the examination. Students who do not take a final examination will earn an "F" in the course, unless t= hey present an authorization for the absence. Students duly authorized n= ot to take the final examination will receive a grade of "F” or an = Incomplete grade on their transcript until they take t= he final examination. Such students must take the final within four months of = the initial exam date. A fee of $5.00 will be charged to a student for taking a final examination other than at the scheduled time, rega= rdless of the reason for absence. This fee will be paid at the Bursar’s Office. Only students with a legitimate excuse may exercise this privilege.=
