The 2025-26 TASFA

Who Can Submit a TASFA Application?

The TASFA (Texas Application for State Financial Aid) application can be submitted by non-citizen students who reside in Texas and wish to apply for state financial aid for college.

This includes:

  1. Certain Unauthorized Immigrants: Students who do not have legal immigration status but have graduated from a Texas high school or received a GED in Texas.

  2. Legal Permanent Residents: Non-citizens who are classified as Texas residents.

  3. Eligible Noncitizens: Students with specific immigration statuses that qualify under state guidelines.

To be eligible, students must meet the criteria set forth by Texas law, including residency requirements and academic qualifications. It's important for applicants to carefully review the criteria to ensure they qualify for state financial aid.

TASFA/Senate Bill 1528

Certain unauthorized immigrants are permitted to enroll in Texas public colleges and qualify for in-state tuition rates. In 2001, the Texas Legislature approved a bill allowing these students to apply for state grants. To obtain Senate Bill 1528 status, students must meet specific requirements detailed in the legislation.

It is important to note that individuals who are not U.S. Citizens, U.S. legal permanent residents, or eligible noncitizens are ineligible for federal financial assistance to cover college expenses.
