The Application Process





The Honors Studies admission process requires


1)      Must be a legal resident within the geographic area of Laredo and/or Webb County and at the discretion of the Honors Selection Committee, a county which is contiguous to Webb County.


2)      To qualify for consideration for the Laredo Community College Honors Program a student must be eligible to take college level courses (no developmental).  To be eligible for the Laredo Community College Honors Scholarship, student must be exempt from taking the Texas Success Initiative exam (TSI) or pass all portions of a TSI exam or achieve minimum score on ACT or SAT and must meet at least one of the following requirements:


  • a)      SAT = 1070 (verbal and math only) with minimum score of 500 in
  •          English and 500 in Math
  • b)      ACT = 24 with a minimum score of 19 in English and Math
  • c)      Graduation in the top 20 percent of high school class
  • d)      Cumulative  high school GPA of 95 or higher


3)      Students who qualify must complete the application form to include

  • a)      Copy of current high school transcript and/or college transcript
  • b)      At least two letters of recommendations from teachers and/or
  •          counselors
  • c)      Copy of ACT/SAT
  • d)      Resume
  • e)      Proof of parents income
  • f)      Completed essay according to the specifications on the application form
  • g)      Portfolio of prior work may be included, but is not required


4)       Final selection will be based on an interview with the LCC Honors Program Selection Committee.  To maintain eligibility, a student must maintain an overall GPA of 3.25. Honor Students are required to complete a minimum of 45 hours approved community service.

Once the application due dates have passed, then personal interviews will be scheduled and students will be notified of their status.
