FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CONTINUING EDUCATION

 

Where can I register?            

      

Students can register for Continuing Education classes at the Eloy Garcia Building, Room 102, at the Fort McIntosh Campus or at the Academic and Advanced Technology Center, Room 126, at our South Campus

 

How do I register? 

 

You can register in person from Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm, and Friday from 8 am to 12 pm.

 

What are your entrance requirements? 

 

Continuing Education courses have no entrance requirements; however, some courses may have prerequisites.

 

Where and how can I pay for my classes? 

 

Classes can be paid at the Bursar’s Office in Lerma-Peña Building at the Fort McIntosh Campus or at the Billy Hall Jr. Student Center at the South Campus.  You can pay for your classes with cash, check, money order or with a credit card.  Full payment is required at the time of registration.

 

What if my class is cancelled? 

 

We will make every effort to notify the students by phone or email.

 

What if I have to report a name or phone number change? 

 

Any changes must be processed through the Continuing Education Department; it is important that all of your information be current. Please call either 956.721.5374 or 956.794.4520.

 

What happens if I withdraw from a class? 

 

To receive a full refund, you (the student) must withdraw from a class prior to its start date.  Absolutely no refunds will be allowed after the start date or first class meeting.

 

What do I receive upon completing the course requirements? 

 

Completion is based on 90% attendance, and upon doing so you will receive a Certificate of Completion, stating that you have met the course requirements.  Certifications and licenses earned may be picked up at the Eloy Garcia Building, Room 102, 14 days after the class has ended. You also will receive Continuing Education Units (CEUs) that are recorded in your college transcript; CEUs are calculated as one-tenth of the total course hours.

 

 

What if I need a duplicate or replacement certificate? 

 

These are available at $5 each. Contact the Continuing Education Department at 956.721.5374.

 

How Can I Register?

 

 

  • In person, you may register at the Eloy Garcia Building , Room 102, or at the Enrollment and Registration Services Center in Lerma Peña, Room 116 at the Fort McIntosh Campus, or the Academic and Advanced Technology Center, Room 126, at the South Campus,  Monday through Thursday from 8 am to 6 pm, and Friday from 8 am to 12 pm.  For additional information, please call 956.721.5374.
  • Payment in full is required at time of registration for all Continuing Education courses. Student must present proof of registration and payment on first class day; there are no entrance requirements.
  • Course registration is processed on a first-come, first-served basis, so register early to ensure that you have a place in the class of your choice.  There is a minimum student enrollment number required in order to hold a class and there is a maximum number of enrollments as well. All holds must be cleared prior to registering for a course. Continuing Education courses have no entrance requirements; however, some courses require prerequisites, which means that a course or condition has to be successfully completed before you are allowed to register. Students may not be allowed to remain in a course if the prerequisites have not been satisfied.

Class Cancellations 

 

If the minimum enrollment requirements are not met, the class will be cancelled.  In the event of a cancellation, we make every effort to notify registered students by phone or email. You may elect to transfer your payment to another class or receive a 100% refund. Refunds are processed automatically.

Class Confirmations  

 

Students are responsible for confirming course start dates and times 24 hours in advance of start date; please call 956.721.5374 or  956.794.4520.  Only paid  students will be permitted in classrooms. Please have receipt ready for presentation.

 

Continuing Education course registration is continuous until a class begins or is full.

 

Refunds 

 

For Continuing Education and Community Service Programs

 

In the event that the class not materialize - 100 percent

 

Prior to the first class day - 100 percent

 

Beginning of the first class and thereafter - No refund

 

Transcript Request  

 

Requests for an official CEU transcript can be made by completing the online request form at www.laredo.edu/ce or by calling the Enrollment and Registration Services Center at 956.721.5109. Transcripts may serve as validation of successful completion of Continuing Education courses. Please note there is no charge for a CEU transcript at this time.

 

Certificate of Completion 

 

Requests for an end-of-course certificate of completion will be done after a course is completed. Certificates will be ready for pick-up 5-7 days after course completion and can be picked up at the Eloy Garcia Building, Room 102. A certificate of completion may serve as confirmation of completion of the Continuing Education course. Duplicate/Replacement  Certificate fee: $5.

 

Age Minimum 

 

Continuing Education courses are designed for adults, 18 years or older. Some courses are designed for a younger audience; these classes are the only exceptions to the age restriction. Senior citizens (65 years and older) can enroll in certain Continuing Education open enrollment courses without payment of tuition, if space is available. Qualifying seniors must still pay all applicable fees.

Every effort is made to list current class locations, rooms and meeting times in this publication. However, when you register, please check your fee receipts for current class locations in case of room changes.

 

Changes 

 

Changes may be made to dates, times, locations and instructors due to unforeseeable circumstances. Always check your fee receipt and/or call the Continuing Education department at 956.721.5374 or 956.794.4520 for the latest class updates.

 

Adding and Dropping a Course 

 

To drop one course and add another, please contact the Continuing Education office at 721.5374, 794.4520 or the Enrollment and Registration Services Center  at 721.5117.

 

CEU  

 

Continuing Education Units are recognized nationally as a measure of substantive in-service education and training. Certificates of completion are issued at the conclusion of vocationally related courses to students who successfully complete the required coursework. Completion is based on a minimum of 90% attendance and/or a performance evaluation. Calculations of CEUs are based on one-tenth of the total course hours.

 

Emergency Closings 

 

In case of an emergency the President of Laredo Community College has the authority to dismiss classes on a case by case basis without prior notice.

 

Family Education Rights and Privacy Act 

 

In compliance with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974, the College may release information classified as "directory information" to the general public without the written consent of the student. Directory information includes student's: (1) name; (2) address; (3) telephone number; (4) email address; (5) weight and height of members of athletic teams; (6) participation in officially recognized activities and sports; (7) dates of attendance; (8) educational institution most recently attended; and (9) other similar information, including major field of study and degrees and awards received. 

 

A student may request that all or any part of the directory information be withheld from the public by giving written notice to the Enrollment and Registration Services Center  at the Fort McIntosh or South campus. If no request is filed, directory information is released upon written inquiry. No telephone inquiries are acknowledged; all requests must be made in person. No transcript or  academic record is released without written consent from the student except as specified by law.
