Safety Operations Center created at Laredo College

HSOC

Laredo College is preparing with state-of-the-art safety protocols to ensure our campuses are ready for in-person and virtual instruction in the fall.

To that end, we have formed the Laredo College Health and Safety Operations Center (HSOC). This group will serve as the lead readiness team for Laredo College.

The mission of this center is to ensure that our students, employees and community are safe now and in the future as we continue to work in response to the unprecedented circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The aim of the HSOC is to go above and beyond the standard measures in order to provide a safe and healthy environment for the Laredo College community.

LC President Ricardo J. Solis said, “Together this team will continue to focus on the safety culture which strengthens Laredo College by evaluating potential hazards and mitigating those hazards with proactive measures.”

This center has received elevated priority and will formulate action plans for the college via meticulous planning based on data, and will execute these plans across various departments.

The areas of responsibility for the HSOC include health, safety, risk and emergency management.

LC Executive Director of Institutional Effectiveness & Research David Arreazola said, “The method by which we facilitate our students’ success has changed and safety has moved to the forefront. This shift is what makes the development of the HSOC so critical to the mission of Laredo College.”

The HSOC will establish a safe learning environment for students, faculty and staff as well as establish effective safety performance targets and indicators. The team will also institute policies, procedures and administrative direction to prevent critical incidents, alert safety decision-makers based on triggers and enhance emergency action plans.

LC Safety and Risk Manager Javier Cano said, “As we deploy the HSOC, the core values of Laredo College will remain our guide as we take proactive steps to continue providing a safe and fulfilling environment in support of our mission.”

The college will continue to balance federal, state and local government recommendations, along with public health and educational guidance, to determine any potential changes or improvements to any safety precautions.
