LC nursing students received starter kit funded through $1 million TikTok gift

Nursing students

Each year, only a select number of men and women are accepted into the prestigious Laredo College Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) Program to begin their nursing formation at the top-ranked nursing school in Texas, the region and the United Stated as named by multiple ranking and healthcare websites.

This week, 26 students in the program will be starting their classes equipped with the materials needed to begin their nursing coursework after receiving a special resourcekit funded through the $1 million gift provided to LC by popular short-form video platform TikTok at the end of 2020 as part of the TikTok Health Heroes Relief Fund.

The TikTok Health Heroes Starter Kit distribution took place on Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 at the College of Health Sciences Building located at the LC South Campus. Each student kit is worth approximately $700 and included materials such as stethoscopes, uniforms, vouchers for online platforms and skills kits.

“Nursing education is intensive in time and expensive regarding finances,” Dean of Health Sciences/Nursing Programs Director Dr. Dianna Miller said. “The TikTok Health Heroes Starter Kit will alleviate a tremendous amount of financial pressure for our students. One less stressor is removed so they can spend more time on their studies. I want to thank TikTok for their generous contributions to the success of these healthcare students.”

Laredo College looks forward to continuing these disbursement events to provide our students with the tools necessary to succeed in their courses. These resources, coupled with the guidance and instruction of our outstanding nursing faculty, allow us to continue our legacy of preparing healthcare professionals for our region.
