D.D. HACHAR HONORS PROGRAM
The Laredo College Honors Program, established by
the college in 1990, challenges highly motivated and intellectually gifted
students who wish to attain an exceptional higher education to explore an academically
rigorous curriculum and socially enriching program that is designed to create
outstanding student leaders at Laredo College.
Our students come to the college well-prepared and are
greeted by Laredo College faculty members with innovative, creative and
challenging courses to further nourish their educational experience. The
mission of the Laredo College Honors Program is to provide an
inspiring, rigorous academic environment for students who are able and ready to
accept the competitive challenge of higher education. The Laredo College Honors Program is committed to providing our students a progressive
course of study that provides new challenges to their exceptional abilities,
preparing them for advanced studies at major four-year institutions.
The Laredo College Honors Program has always
attracted serious students in the pursuit of academic excellence and community
involvement, and with a commitment to student leadership. Our faculty members are
dedicated to presenting students with the most valuable of educational
experiences in the most enriching and supportive environment available.
The Laredo College Honors Program is empowered by
engaged faculty and enthusiastic students, who together cultivate an active
learning environment that is always responsive to the changing needs of our
society. The Laredo College Honors Program supports challenging
coursework taught by faculty who serve as mentors to our students and create a community
of scholars who share a common sense of purpose and spirit of collaboration.
It is the goal of the Laredo College Honors
Program to encourage students to become outstanding, independent thinkers, as
well as engaged student learners. This enables these students to master
critical thinking skills and self-expression. Through the encouragement of
faculty members, our students engage in productive teamwork, enabling them to
master the life lesson of working collaboratively along with members of the
college and local community.
Along with language skills, there is a concerted effort to
enhance mathematical, scientific, and technological skills among our students.
A higher degree of student participation and involvement in college and community
activity is required. Laredo College Honors Program students are
mentored by faculty and receive personalized degree plans for academic
An important outcome as a result of participation in the
Laredo College Honors Program is the acquisition of knowledge and the
increased opportunity for these academically gifted students to graduate from
Laredo College and transfer to a prestigious college or university of
their choice. Upon completion of their Associate’s degree, Laredo College Honors Program graduates receive special designation on their
transcripts and diploma and special recognition during the graduation ceremony.
