Free Application for Federal Student Financial Aid (FAFSA)


In order for Laredo College to receive your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) do not forget to add the school code: 003582.

Apply for college financial aid! 

1.  Gather Student/Parent (if dependent) Information

Dependent students are required to provide parental information on their FAFSA and independent students are not required to provide parental information. 

In order to determine dependency eligibility status, the student can complete the Dependency Status Worksheet

Below is a list of documents you will need: 

  • Your Social Security card (and your parents', if dependent)
  • Your alien registration or permanent resident card (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
  • Your (and your spouse's, if married) Income Tax Return
  • Your Parents' Income Tax Return (if you are a dependent student)
  • Your W-2 forms and other records of money earned
  • Any untaxed income records including child support paid or received
  • Your email address (and your parent's, if dependent)  
  • Your FSA ID (and your parent's, if dependent)  

 

2.  Create an FSA ID (fsaid.ed.gov) 

 

  • Your full name (and your parent's, if dependent) as shown in the Social Security Card  
  • Your Social Security number (and your parent's, if dependent) 
  • Your date of birth (and your parent's, if dependent) 
  • Your Email address (and your parent's, if dependent) 

 

3.  Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online http://www.fafsa.ed.gov 

  Applications for the 2020 - 2021 aid year will become available as soon as October 01, 2019. For your 2020 - 2021 FAFSA, students will need their 2018 Income Tax Return (if filed) and the parents' 2018 Income Tax Return (if dependent). Applicants should complete their FAFSA online. There is a paper version however; the processing is much lengthier. To better assist, you the Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs Center have computers available at both of our campuses - Ft. McIntosh Lerma Peña Building Room 152 or South Campus One Stop Shop Room A101 to support students with the application process. Please see our contact information for office locations and lab hours .

For your 2019 - 2020 FAFSA, students will need their 2017 Income Tax Return (if filed) and the parents' 2017 Income Tax Return (if dependent). Applicants should complete their FAFSA online. 4.  Login to PASPort to Check Your Financial Aid Status

 If you completed your FAFSA online, your application will be process as long as you (and your parents, if dependent) have signed the application with a FSA ID or submitted the signature page to the Department of Education. If your application has all required FSA User ID signatures, Laredo College Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs Services Center will receive your application from the U.S. Department of Education within three to five working days. If you were required to submit a signature page, Laredo College Financial Aid & Veterans Affairs Services Center will receive your application in approximately four weeks. After that time, please check your status online  or visit our office at either campus - Ft. McIntosh Lerma Peña Building Room 148 or South Campus One Stop Shop Room A109.
