Bound is a program specifically designed for first-generation college-bound
and/or low-income students. The year round program is designed to enhance
students’ academic and social skills to succeed in post-secondary education.
The program’s objectives are to improve student’s high school grade point
average, raise their self-esteem, increase standardized test scores and to
provide assistance in applying for college admission, financial aid, and
scholarships. It provides college exposure through field trips to several
colleges and universities. The program goals are met by student participation
in three components. The summer component is a six-week program at the LCC
campus, including recreational activities, intensive academic instruction and an
educational/cultural field trip. The Fall/Spring component includes Saturday
meetings, after school tutoring, cultural field trips, an academic competition,
social events, activities in career awareness, and counseling. The Bridge
component is designed for graduating seniors who will be enrolled in summer
classes at LCC; Upward Bound offers full scholarships for the first summer
session to selected students.
