With Laredo’s nationally recognized position as the top land port of the country, the importance of professionally trained and experienced automotive technicians is vital to its continued success.
This is why Laredo College is excited to improve its students’ educational experience with a purchase of new equipment, courtesy of a $10,000 donation by the Sames family. This support continues to help the college’s mission in training transportation technology students with the necessary tools and techniques used daily in the industry.
According to Transportation Technology Department Chair Francisco J. Ramirez, the funding will be used to purchase an air conditioning recycling machine for R1234 refrigerant, a battery analyzer, tester and charger. With this funding, students will have an early opportunity to use this equipment used throughout the industry and have them ready by the time they graduate.
“R1234 refrigerant is used for new cars and prior to this donation, we did not have the machine to service them,” Ramirez said. “We will use this machine in our air conditioning class as to be in compliance with OSHA regulations, while the battery analyzer will be used in our electrical classes to diagnose, charge batteries and provide more data for the customers.”
