Internet Online Courses

LCC offers online classes using the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS), and the online courses are accessed through PASPort. Canvas is an easy-to-use virtual classroom system that allows you to view presentations, read class assignments, participate in chat sessions, submit coursework, discuss course topics via a conversation messaging tool, take exams, and access course grades. For detailed information about your online class, log on to the LCC website. Click the "Instruction" tab under Instructional Services. Then select the "Syllabus Information and Faculty Vitae" link. Here you will find the course description, learning outcomes, teaching strategies and how online exams will be administered.

All online courses will require the use of Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor (RLBM) which records students while taking an exam from home. Online students can download a copy of the RLBM program, at no cost, from The LockDown Browser/Monitor requires that online students have a computer with a webcam and microphone to record an online exam session from home. The webcam can be part of your computer, or it can be connected to the computer using a USB cable. To get a basic understanding of the webcam feature of Respondus LockDown Browser and Monitor, view a - short video at Then download and install LockDown Browser from the Center for Distance Learning website at If you don’t have a webcam, you can borrow one for the entire semester from the Center for Distance Learning. Students also have the option to come on-campus to take a test.  If you have problems downloading, installing, or taking a test with LockDown Browser/Monitor, contact the CDL staff at 956.721.5880 or via e-mail @ or complete an eHelp Desk request at

Out-of-town students will also be required to use LockDown Browser/Monitor to take regular semester exams and the final exam. All online final exams must be proctored either with the RLBM at home or by coming on campus to take the final at the Lewis Energy Academic Center Room 307 or at the South Campus, Learning Enrichment Center Room B222. Online students are encouraged to consult the Distance Learning Student Handbook @ under the "Student Resource" tab to get additional information on how to drop an online course, the attendance policy, the availability of student support services, and other important online guidelines. Finally, students are required to attend a face-to-face orientation or complete the Online Course Orientation found at
