Don't Delay, Link Today!

All college students are strongly encouraged to use “Link to IRS”, a new feature within the online Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Students and parents (if dependent) are required to apply for an FSA ID, go to StudentAid.gov/fsaid to create your FSA ID.

This option makes applying easier because it allows students to transfer Income Tax information from the IRS directly to your FAFSA application.

According to the U.S. Department of Education, students who do not use the “Link to IRS” feature and are most likely to get selected for verification. Student selected for verification will have to provide an IRS Tax Return Transcript that can take up to three weeks to obtain and delay your application process for financial aid.

Tax Return Transcripts can be requested:

  • online via the IRS website or
  • by telephone at 1.800.908.9946 or
  • complete the form 4506-T

or

Submit the 1040 Income Tax Return - signed

Additional information and instructions regarding the process to request an IRS Tax Return Transcript can be found via the IRS website's Tax Return Transcript Order Form.
