Students enrolling at a Texas public institution and pursuing a two or four-year degree must complete the Texas Core Curriculum (“basics”).  The purpose of the Core is to facilitate the transfer of freshman and sophomore level general education courses from one Texas public institution to another.

The current Core Curriculum consists of nine categories.  To satisfy credit requirements for each category, students must select courses from an approved list of options.  Each category has its own options called a “course inventory”.

The Core Curriculum Course Inventory is reviewed and updated every academic year, so course inventories can change.  This means courses can be added or removed from the institution’s inventory.  So, seeking assistance from an advisor is critical to your progress.
