Fire Protection and Safety Technology

Certificate I in Safety Technology is a comprehensive, one-year (2 semester) hybrid program designed to establish the information and skills necessary to work in a fire department. Topics include fire department communications, PPE, rescue operations, fire prevention, preparedness, maintenance, hazmat operation, and hazmat awareness.

Students participate in outdoor classroom instruction and activities that require demonstrations of fire-fighter skills and physically demanding training. Successful completion of the program is mandatory in order to sit for the Texas Firefighter Certification exam.

After successfully completing our program, you will receive a Basic Firefighter Certificate of Completion. The Texas Commission on Fire Protection Basic Fire Suppression (TCFP) certification exam is administered at the end of the Fire Certification VII course. Students must qualify for and pass all four sections of the structured exam. In addition, the student must also provide documentation of completion of medical training equal to EMR, ECA, EMT, or Paramedic certification to apply for the Basic Fire Suppression certification.
