Certificate I
Overview
The Certificate I in Cloud Computing at Laredo College provides students with the technical skills needed to support and manage modern IT environments. This two-semester program combines networking, operating systems, information security, and programming foundations with specialized training in cloud platforms and administration.
Students will gain experience in:
- Operating systems – installation, configuration, and administration
- Networking fundamentals for local and cloud-based systems
- Information security principles to safeguard systems and data
- Programming and scripting to support IT problem-solving and automation
- Cloud computing essentials – virtualization, deployment, and management of services
Graduates are prepared for roles such as Cloud Support Technician, Systems Support Specialist, or Junior Network Administrator, with opportunities in businesses, government, education, and cloud service providers. This certificate also serves as the first step toward advanced study through Cloud Computing – Certificate II or the Associate of Applied Science in Cloud Computing.
Information
The Cloud Computing – Certificate I introduces students to the skills needed to support IT systems and transition into cloud-based environments. Students complete coursework in networking, security, programming, and operating systems before moving into cloud computing fundamentals and system administration.
Key areas covered include:
- PC and UNIX operating system administration
- Networking and secure configurations
- Cloud computing fundamentals and virtualization
- Scripting for IT automation

- Prerequisites: None (students must earn a grade of “C” or better in all courses)
- Pathway: Required foundation for the Cloud Computing AAS degree; leads into Cloud Computing – Certificate II
