LC continues partnership with 911Cellular to enhance campus safety

Laredo College is proud to announce its continued partnership with 911Cellular, a leading safety technology company, to promote a versatile safety app for mobile devices called CampusShield.

Furthermore, LC has integrated wearable panic buttons to its safety suite to better ensure a safe and state-of-the-art campus protection. It is an added feature to convenient panic buttons on desktops and the multifaceted CampusShield app available for students, staff, faculty and the community.

According to LC Director of Safety & Risk Management Casandra Salinas, the wearable panic buttons are an easy way to report an emergency with the added functionality of providing campus police with the individual’s exact location and contact information to help officers respond appropriately.

“Ultimately, here at Laredo College, safety is our top priority,” she said. “This is an added feature to our safety resources that is being thoroughly tested to make sure it is beneficial and effective for our institution.”

The CampusShield app offers an easy-access duress button for emergency situations and proactive safety tools that allow students to report suspicious activities while remaining anonymous. Additionally, the app includes several non-emergency features designed to enhance the overall on-campus experience for both students and staff.

“It’s an honor to work with Laredo College to provide our cutting-edge safety technology to their students. Campus safety is paramount in today’s world and our mission is to provide the very best in emergency alert technology to campuses nationwide,” 911Cellular CEO Chad Salahshour said.

LC encourages all staff and students to download the CampusShield app as it fully integrates into the college’s existing infrastructure and will be available to all students, faculty and staff via their phone’s app store. Some of the app’s key features include:

  • Emergency Slider: Think of this like your ‘digital blue light.’ If you ever need the help of Campus Police while on campus, swipe from left to right.
  •
  • See Something, Say Something: If you notice any safety concerns, you can quickly and easily send texts, photos and videos directly to Campus Police. They may respond to your tip, even if submitted anonymously, to request more information.
  •
  • FriendWatch: This feature allows you to select up to five personal contacts (like family or friends) and, if on campus, Campus Police, who can all virtually monitor your safety during activities of your choosing. The contacts you select will be able to view the activity description, as well as your current location until you end the timer.
