Local artists debuted exciting exhibit at LC

Art enthusiasts once again gathered at Laredo College for a display of artistic sensibility in the form of its latest art exhibition, “Disparate Inclinations.”

The curated exhibition is on display at the Martha Fenstermaker Memorial Visual Arts Gallery, located inside the Visual and Performing Arts Center at the LC Ft. McIntosh Campus.

The opening reception took place on Thursday, Sept. 29 from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The event featured a performance art piece by Maritza Bautista reciting her thought-provoking poem “El Tren.”

Seven local talents, including Laredo College art faculty Lestat Alexander, Mary Bausman and Eva Soliz, showcased their art pieces along with local community artists Maritza Bautista, Emily Bayless, Erika Ordoñez and Ashley Tristán. Art media included ceramic, painting, mixed/digital media, mixed media and a spoken word performance.

“This exhibit highlights artists from Laredo,” said featured artist and Visual and Performing Arts Department Chair Eva Soliz. “The title of the exhibit, ‘Disparate Inclinations,’ reflects the diversity in style, materials and content in the artists’ work, as well as the different perspectives of each artist. Each has their own ‘Disparate Inclinations’ in their work.”

This exhibit will run from Sept. 29 to Oct. 28. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Admission is free and open to the public.

Anyone interested in a visually compelling, family-friendly outing is invited to visit our gallery and support local artists.
