Nothing represents the warm spring sun and cool breeze better than a day of outdoor fun with family. On Saturday, April 15, Laredo College will host the Cars, Kites & Cook-Off event and invites the community to join in on the fun.
While the LC tradition of hosting a kite festival for the children of the community was always a pleasant way to enjoy the weekend, the new event will include a car show organized by the LC Transportation Technology Department and a cook-off competition to see who is the strongest grill master in the area.
The morning will be kicked-off with some kite flying on the front lawn at 10 a.m. before the car show begins at noon. We encourage everyone to visit early and bring their kite to enjoy the morning weather and fresh breeze.
The car show will follow at noon with several of the transportation technology students and staff presenting their rides for all to see. Furthermore, it will also host numerous vehicles that they have worked on from around the community.
As for the cook-off, also kicked off at noon, the first 20 to 25 entries will be allowed to compete. Participants will need to take their own tents, tables and equipment as they then compete against one another to show off their skill at the grill. The cook-off winner will be decided based on a judge’s vote and they will then be presented with a certificate from the college and will earn bragging rights for a year.
The car show and cook-off registration will be through the phone and online, respectively.
For those interested in participating in the car show, they can contact Transportation Technology Department Chair Francisco Ramirez at (956) 794-4071. The cook-off registration can be done by scanning the QR code found on the flyer or by visiting shorturl.at/dmrQX.
For fun throughout the day, children will get to enjoy a bounce house, slides and an inflatable obstacle course. Additionally, LC student clubs will be present, selling snacks and drinks throughout the event.
