Laredo College excited to host historic summer graduation

As parents, teachers and students in our community gear up for the beginning of a new academic year, Laredo College is preparing to celebrate the culmination of student success and academic achievement this Friday, August 11 with two historic summer graduation ceremonies, a first in the college’s 76-year history.

The ceremonies will be held at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the Maravillo Gym at the LC Ft. McIntosh Campus in Laredo’s downtown historic district. Over 220 students will walk across the graduation stage after countless hours of hard work and dedication.

With our students’ needs at the center of this inaugural summer commencement, LC is excited to begin this new tradition of hosting spring, summer and winter graduations. Moving away from hosting a single annual ceremony will allow students to celebrate their achievements almost immediately after finishing their coursework for their programs, degrees or certifications.

“It is always a privilege to celebrate the success of our students, and we are excited to establish this new tradition of having three annual graduation ceremonies. We are hosting this inaugural summer graduation right here at our beautiful Ft. McIntosh Campus, adding to the special and intimate atmosphere one can only find here. Our historic campus holds an unparalleled significance in our community as a longstanding beacon of hope and a place of opportunity for all,” Laredo College President Dr. Minita Ramírez said.

The excitement on campus is palpable, with students getting a head start on the celebration at their graduation fair, where they picked up and donned their caps and gowns, took photos, created memories and met with representatives from other higher education institutions and learned about diverse career opportunities.

Known for offering high-quality, affordable education to anyone seeking one, the college is proud to continue its tradition of excellence by educating students to enter the workforce equipped with the knowledge and training necessary to strengthen our labor market and local, regional and national economies.

Laredo College is honored to have been a part of our graduates’ journey. We look forward to continue supporting them through our alumni career services provided by the LC Workforce Development Center.
