LC Palo-Minis celebrate Week of the Young Child

The unyielding pursuit of excellence and strong academic foundation begins from an early age at Laredo College via its Camilo Prada Child Development Center. In observance of the Week of the Young Child, a fun-filled week celebrating early learning, young children, their teachers, families and communities, the Prada Palo-Minis enjoyed multiple interactive activities with their families.

As part of this annual nationwide initiative, Camilo Prada staff and students kicked off the week with a proclamation by the City of Laredo officially designating the Week of the Young Child and recognizing its importance in the community alongside Camilo Prada students and staff, Laredo College administrators, local childcare centers and other community partners.

True to its mission of fostering learning and development through play, the week’s activities included a dance party, classroom cooking fun, child fingerprints, an art gallery and family time with the students and their families spending quality time and sharing a snack.

“The Week of the Young Child is a time to recognize that children’s opportunities are our responsibilities, and to recommit ourselves to ensuring that each and every child experiences the type of early environment–at home, at child care, at school and in the community–that will promote their early learning,” Camilo Prada Child Development Center Director Maria G. Martinez said.

The Camilo Prada Child Development Center provides quality care for children from Laredo and the surrounding communities, and promotes cognitive, social, emotional and physical skills among all children leading to the development of the whole child.

The Week of the Young Child is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the world’s largest early childhood education association, with nearly 60,000 members and a network of 51 affiliates.
