LC launches student meal plan to combat hunger, enhance campus engagement

Laredo College is excited to unveil its student meal plan for the fall semester, designed to provide students with a variety of on-campus dining options and ensure they stay well-nourished throughout their academic journey.

Full-time students enrolled in at least three semester credit hours of face-to-face instruction are eligible for the meal plan. This initiative is set to enhance the educational experience for Palominos by fostering improved academic performance and increased participation in campus activities.

LC Student Life Director Pedro Rivera emphasized the significance of the meal plan as part of the college’s broader efforts to alleviate the financial burdens of higher education.

“The downtown area where our historic Ft. McIntosh Campus is located is often referred to as a food desert,” Rivera said. “By offering this meal plan, we aim to make food more accessible to our students who may struggle with food availability. This initiative allows students to focus on their studies, engage more fully in campus life and enjoy their meals without added stress.”

Each eligible student will receive $200 to spend throughout the fall semester at any of the food vendors on both LC campuses. These vendors include Chick-Fil-A, Eduardo’s Restaurante, Gateway Bagel Co., Sendero Coffee, Taco Palenque and our newest addition–Livi’s Mexicue.

To access the meal plan funds, students must use their new Laredo College Palomino ID. Any unused funds from the Fall 2024 meal plan will expire on Dec. 15, 2024, and will not carry over to the next semester.
