LC showcases top student talent in exciting new exhibit

The highest form of artistic expression will be showcased at the upcoming Laredo College Student Art Exhibit on Friday, Sept. 6.

A total of 55 pieces have been chosen to represent the best artistic talent LC has to offer and what is taught in its art courses. These courses include Beginning Drawing, 2D Design, 3D Design, Beginning and Advanced Painting and Ceramics.

The exhibit will debut at the Martha Fenstermaker Memorial Visual Arts Gallery at the historic Ft. McIntosh Campus from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. and will run until Friday, Oct. 11. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Friday from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Admission is free and open to the community.

Both two-dimensional and three-dimensional conceptual works will be featured, showcasing a variety of materials such as oil paintings, graphite drawings and sculptures made from wire and paper. There will also be numerous sculptural ceramic pieces.

Visitors can expect to be impressed by the flourishing talent of Laredo College art students. The exhibit will include various themes and concepts, ranging from personal and light-hearted to humorous and edgy.

Students have poured their hearts into these pieces, which were selected by faculty and represent the best assignments from the Fall 2023 and Spring 2024 semesters.

Laredo College Art Professor Mary Provence said attendees will enjoy the work of these budding local artists and can learn more about pursuing a career in art at LC.

“Come support our students,” she said. “This is their moment to shine and feel proud of being selected in front of their friends and family members. Exciting things are always happening in the art department. We are in the midst of collaborations with the computer-aided drafting program as well as engineering. If you’re interested in taking an art course, you’ll have the opportunity to visit with the artists and ask questions about their concepts and the courses they enjoyed or recommend.”
