LC lays wreath in honor of first Laredo-born Medal of Honor recipient

With the Tuesday morning sun shining on the Pvt. David B. Barkley Cantu’s historical marker, Laredo College President Dr. Minita Ramírez laid a wreath to honor his and all the sacrifices made by the members of the armed forces in service for their country.

“David B. Barkley was the first the first Hispanic American to receive the Congressional Medal of Honor for his service in World War I,” Dr. Ramírez said. “Like all veterans, we commemorate their lives, we give them thanks and praise their love of country and love of God. We pay tribute to them and their families; we shall never forget their service.”

“God bless America.”
