Overview

The Certificate I in Information Assurance at Laredo College provides students with a strong foundation in networking and cybersecurity principles. This entry-level program is designed to prepare students for immediate workforce opportunities while also serving as a stepping stone toward advanced study in cybersecurity.

Students will develop skills in:

  • Computer and network fundamentals
  • Secure configurations and access control
  • Firewalls, intrusion detection, and defense mechanisms
  • Risk assessment and incident response basics

Coursework emphasizes hands-on learning with current tools and practices used in the field. The program prepares students for industry-recognized certifications such as CompTIA Network+ and CompTIA Security+.

Graduates are equipped for entry-level roles such as IT Support Technician, Network Technician, or Cybersecurity Assistant, with opportunities in corporate IT departments, government agencies, and managed service providers.

The student seeking admission to the Information Assurance, Certificate I program must:

  1. Be admitted as an LC student
    • A student must reapply if they last attended more than one year ago.
    • Visit https://www.applytexas.org/ for more information.
    • Ensure you have an LC Palomino ID and access to your LC student email before applying.
  2. Meet TSI Readiness Requirements
    • Applicants must be TSI Ready in Reading, Writing, and Math to be eligible for program consideration.
  3. Sign the Code of Ethics Document
    • All applicants must read, acknowledge, and sign the Information Assurance Code of Ethics form before submission.
  4. Program Interview
    • Eligible applicants will participate in a program interview to assess their readiness, motivation, and alignment with program goals.
