Our Mission
Our mission is to protect life, property, and the environment, including supporting Laredo College’s mission in transforming students’ lives through educational programs and services. This is accomplished by:
- Taking preventative measures to avoid incidents or intervene to stop them from occurring
- Taking mitigation measures that prevent emergencies, reduce the chance of emergencies, or reduce the damaging effects of unavoidable emergencies
- Taking preparedness measures that include developing mutual aid agreements and memorandums of understanding, training for both response personnel and concerned citizens, conducting disaster exercises to reinforce training and test capabilities, and presenting hazards
- Taking response actions carried out immediately before, during, and immediately after a hazard impact, which are aimed at saving lives, reducing economic losses, and alleviating suffering
- Taking recovery actions to return to normal or near-normal operation conditions
The Safety and Risk Management Office promotes safety, environmental compliance, and risk management principles. We assist the college community in achieving these outcomes through education, hazard assessment, exposure mitigation, and responsible management of hazardous materials.
