Overview

Welcome to the Computer Sciences & Technology Department. The department provides instruction in three different Workforce Education programs. Each program's student learning outcomes align with industry skillset  demands  to ensure a greater probability for employment upon graduation. The department also provides instruction for the Laredo College core curriculum as well as in an Associate of Science Degree involving a Computer Science concentration. 

The mission of the Computer Sciences & Technology Department is to fulfil the learning objectives of each one of our students, while providing quality, relevant, hands-on instruction. Students will be encouraged to engage in an environment conducive for learning. The department's goal for each of our students is to inspire them to fully attain their learning potential. 

Information

The Networking Technologies concentrating in Network Administration, Certificate II completes the first year of the AAS degree in the Cisco Red Hat Linux Administration program. Semester one of the certificate provides instruction in the basic principles of LAN construction and scripting. The award addresses operating system concepts (from a workstation perspective), network fundamentals including the OSI model, cabling, and topologies, a fundamentals course in cybersecurity, and an introduction to programming using Python. 

Semester two of the award addresses specialization instruction in Cisco, Linux, and Microsoft Server. All students pursuing the specialization must complete the 26-hour one-year award. The award provides a foundation for more advanced coursework in the program. This award requires no prerequisites and is exempt from TSI requirements.
