Welcome to the Computer Technology Department

Our primary mission and goal are to prepare program graduates for successful entry into the Workforce. The department provides specialized instruction in three in-demand technology programs:

Networking Technologies with specializations in Cisco Red Hat Linux Administration, or Cloud Computing (AAS)

  • Computer-Aided Drafting & Design Technology (AAS)
  • Computer Science (AS)

The Networking Technologies program includes curriculum from the Cisco, Red Hat Linux, AWS, and CompTIA academies. This ensures instructional alignment with valued industry certification. As students complete their program curriculum, they dually prepare for certification. The Networking Technologies program received a national designation as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education.

The AAS program in Computer-Aided Drafting & Design Technology is designed to produce computer draftsmen skilled in computer graphics equipment, solid modeling, architectural, residential, and civil drafting, surveying, geographic information systems, and drone aviation technology. Software utilized in the program includes AutoCAD, AutoCAD Architecture, Land Development Desktop, Civil-3D, Revit, Inventor, Solid Works, and ESRI. At the conclusion of the program, students will be prepared to attempt an Autocad certification.

All AAS awards include stackable certificates and Occupational Skills Awards. The structure of the curriculum is designed to provide exit points for students desiring immediate entry into the workforce. The department's AAS. awards are articulated with baccalaureate programs at Texas A&M University @ San Antonio, South Texas College and Western Governors University.

The Associate of Science in Computer Science program requires completion of the institution’s core curriculum, along with courses in calculus, university physics, and 4 computer science programming courses. Instruction for programming courses are provided in Python. Program credits are transferable to most university computer science baccalaureate programs in Texas.

The Computer Technology Department is a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education. This is a designation sanctioned by the National Security Agency and Department of Homeland Security recognizing the department for exemplary instruction and practices in cyber defense.
