On behalf of the Interim VP of Institutional Advancement at Laredo College, the AEP Foundation Credits Count Grant STEM Program at Laredo College and the Laredo Independent School District, we welcome you to our website. Services Offered
The program is designed to help LISD middle & high school students and Laredo College (LC) students majoring in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields overcome various academic and financial barriers by providing them with:
• Focused, specific, and personalized advising regarding STEM academic programs
• Tutoring tools and resources to empower high school students to pass the TSI Exam and enroll in dual enrollment classes at Laredo College
• Workshops to assist students in building effective resumes, interview techniques, essay writing tips, study skills, time management, etc…
• Interaction with STEM peers, STEM professionals and STEM faculty at Laredo College
• Financial aid advice regarding scholarships, stipends, and internship opportunities
• Middle School STEM Exploration including field trips and robotics
• Scholarships for STEM majors at LC
• Scholarship assistance for LISD High School STEM teachers to receive their master’s degree and the ability to teach dual enrollment courses at LISD high schools
• Ongoing support and resources to guide students through completion of their STEM-related program of study
Benefits: As a participant in the AEP Foundation Credits Count Grant Program, middle school, high school and college students are given excellent opportunities in STEM including:
LISD Middle School Students:
Participate in the creation of robotics programs at local LISD middle schools;
Participate in Middle School STEM Exploration including field trips to NASA and to the LC Environmental Science Center;
Participate in the LISD STEM Trailblazer Program
LISD High School and LC Students:
Receive tuition support for LC Dual Enrollment Classes;
Receive scholarships to attend LC; Participate in educationally enriched STEM activities;
Receive mentoring from LC STEM Faculty and other STEM professionals; Receive advising on the appropriate pathways into 4-year colleges and universities in STEM related fields.
