
Laredo College health sciences programs are well-known for high academic rigor, caring and compassionate faculty, quality education and state-of-the-art equipment that prepares students for the workforce.
After officially inaugurating the College of Health Sciences Building at the South Campus last year, the college was eager to host its first open house event on Monday, October 10 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. The building is composed of one functional clinic, two conference rooms, a multipurpose room, 32 classrooms and labs, 11 simulation labs, study areas and 57 offices.
This modern venue houses the college’s renowned healthcare-related programs, including the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN-BSN), Associate Degree in Nursing, Vocational Nursing, Emergency Medical Services, Medical Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Physical Therapist Assistant, Radiologic Technology and Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Hundreds of community members attended the event and met students, faculty, staff and college administrators during an afternoon dedicated to highlighting the wide-ranging career opportunities LC offers for those interested in pursuing a career in healthcare.
Enrollment and registration services were also be available at the event. The Laredo College Admissions Office and Financial Aid Office assisted prospective students. The Office of Donor Relations and Special Projects was also on hand to provide information regarding available private scholarships.
“The College of Health Sciences was excited to host this open house,” said Dean of Health Sciences/Nursing Programs Director Dr. Dianna Miller. "We have an excellent facility with state-of-the-art equipment that prepares students for the workplace. We also have excellent faculty members who care about the students and help them throughout their journey.”
Event attendees learned about the various healthcare programs offered at Laredo College and met the people behind these successful and nationally acclaimed programs. Most prominently, the Associate Degree in Nursing Program has been ranked the #1 program in Texas for the past five consecutive years.
Guests enjoyed a schedule jam-packed with interactive activities such as tours of all the programs with various activities catering to each program, student demonstrations on manikins, a tour of our ambulance, activities for a variety of age groups, presentations and Q&A sessions specific to areas of financial aid, admissions and the different health sciences programs.
