Accomplished LC grad returns to Laredo for free classical guitar concert

Ramiro-Rubio-edited.jpgThe Laredo College Visual and Performing Arts Department has produced numerous talented artists, dancers and musicians who have achieved great success and have prolific careers.

UW-Milwaukee graduate student Ramiro Rubio is a fine example of an LC alumnus who has continued his career in music. He is excited to be back in Laredo and to perform a free classical guitar recital on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. at the Ft. McIntosh Campus Shoebox Theater (T-30).

Rubio started learning guitar at Laredo College under the tutelage of Dr. Cain Budds and later under Dr. Matthew Bishop. He graduated with an Associate Degree in Performing Arts and then transferred to the University of Texas at Brownsville. He will earn his master’s degree from the University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee in December and has plans to pursue a doctoral degree in music.

The LC graduate has concertized with the One O’Clock Guitar Ensemble in prestigious events and venues, including the Schönbrunn Palace and the “Amerikahaus” U.S. Embassy in Vienna, Austria. He also performed nationally and had a special performance alongside Grammy award-winning artists Los Angeles Guitar Quartet.

The UTB One O’ Clock Guitar Ensemble and Ramiro were also selected to perform in the premiere of Dr. Joe Williams’ recordings of an old Alfred Hitchcock movie entitled “The Lodger.”

Most recently, Rubio performed at the Camino Artes Guitar Workshop in Carreon, Spain in 2019 and 2022. He has performed in many masterclasses with artists such as David Russel, Jason Vieaux, Rovshan Mamedkuliev, Anton Baranov, Stanley Yates, Rene Izquierdo, Dr. Isaac Bustos and others.

The community is invited to enjoy Rubio’s incredible guitar melodies at this upcoming recital. Admission is free and open to the public.
