File your taxes for free at LC

For its seventh consecutive year, Laredo College has partnered with the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program to offer free income tax preparation services for people in our community.

The college will hold free sessions at both campuses for individuals or families with incomes of $66,000 or less. IRS-certified volunteers will offer free assistance in English and Spanish during the tax preparation sessions.

“VITA services are provided by IRS-certified volunteers who are committed to helping people file their taxes by providing accurate, free and trustworthy tax preparation assistance,” said LC Dean of Community Education Sandra Cortez. “We are proud of this partnership because it creates a positive financial impact when households receive all the qualifying credits made available by the IRS.”

The program will be offered at the Laredo College Ft. McIntosh Campus in the Eloy Garcia Building in rooms 129 and 140. Services will be available Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. starting Feb. 7 until April 13.

The Laredo College South Campus will have these services available for the community starting Feb. 6 until April 12 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Academic & Advanced Technology Center in room 235.

Necessary documentation to prepare the income tax return includes proof of identification, social security cards for the person, their spouse and dependents or a social security number verification letter issued by the Social Security Administration.

Other important information and documents residents may need include birth dates, all wage and earning statements (Form W-2, W-2G, 1099R) from all employers, interest and dividend statements from their banks and bank routing and account numbers.

All sessions are by appointment only and can be booked online. For additional information regarding these free services, a complete list of documentation required or to schedule an appointment, visit https://vitalaredo.org or call (956) 307-8138.
