Award-winning musician offering free performance at LC

Laredo College is proud to be a part of the local movement that seeks to expand the offerings within the visual and performing arts in Laredo, making it a destination for artists, musicians, performers, entertainers and other creatives.
 
Arts and culture enthusiasts will be treated to a free classic guitar recital by Dr. Hector Javier Rodriguez Santos this Saturday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the LC Shoebox Theater (T-30) located in the Ft. McIntosh Campus in historic downtown Laredo. The event is free and open to the public.
 
Dr. Rodriguez enjoys an active career as a soloist, chamber musician and teacher who has given performances and masterclasses across the globe. He joined the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley faculty in the fall of 2014, serving as director of the Guitar Ensemble and as lecturer of Applied Guitar.
 
“The program includes music from Cuba, Mexico, Colombia, Paraguay, Spain and France, from renowned composers such as Francisco Tarrega, Eduardo Martin, Agustin Barrios, Gentil Montaña and Roland Dyens,” he said. “I’m also excited to feature new music from Mexican composers Guillermo Diego and Julio Cesar Oliva. This program is full of energetic and rhythmic music.”
 
The guitar maestro has been recognized with numerous prizes and accolades in multiple events, including first-place winner in the University of Texas-Pan American Guitar Competition, second-place winner in the Houston Guitar Competition, The Leo Brouwer Prize at the Festival Internacional de Guitarra del Noreste in Saltillo, Mexico, second prize winner at the Dallas International Guitar Competition, the Ocelotl Award by Universidad Autónoma de Coahuila for Best Artistic Project and winner of the NFA Newly Published Music Awards.
