When it comes to help raising and educating our next generation to lead us to a greater future, it takes a village.
For Laredo College, the village consists of our staff from the Camilo Prada Child Development Center, our Child Development Program students and the always generous members of the Women’s City Club (WCC). With all their dedication to our communities’ youngest, each new generation of children who step through the center are ready to take strides toward success after graduation.
WCC President-elect and Treasurer Alma Esquinca Narvaez proudly said that the most recent donation of lavish pink scrubs for the teachers and emerald green smocks for the Child Development students is part of yearly contributions made for the betterment of the Camilo Prada children.
“Women’s City Club was founded back in 1939, and we help around 50 agencies including Camilo Prada each and every year,” she said. “All the money we give out is based on fundraising and we work tirelessly every year to give it all back to our community.”
Camilo Prada Child Development Center Director Lupita Martinez said that in gratitude and celebration of the donation, the staff have deemed every Wednesday as Women’s City Club Wednesday and will be wearing their scrubs adorned with the WCC seal on the sleeve.
This doesn’t mean that they are barring anyone from sitting with them à la Mean Girls. In fact, the Child Development Program interns will be wearing their green WCC smocks every Tuesday and Thursday as their form of thanks for the continued support.
Walking through the center, seeing the children smiling and laughing alongside their friends and teachers, WCC Chairmember Claudia Arredondo said that it has been immensely rewarding witnessing and being part of the contributions to agencies that help make our area a better place to live.
