The fantastical and curious world of art is once again showcased during the upcoming exhibit by renowned artist Hector Hernandez.
Hernandez’s Neo-Paganism and the Failed Gods exhibit will be featured at the LC Performing Arts Center Martha Fenstermaker Memorial Visual Arts gallery starting on Thursday, April 11 and continues through May 10.
Opening reception starts at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. A gallery talk by Hernandez will begin at 5:30 p.m.
Gallery hours are Monday to Thursday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-5:30 p.m. and Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
As a native Laredoan, Hernandez brings his latest exhibit to LC after being featured in a wide number of prominent exhibits. These include Getty Museum, Kunsthaus Gallery in Germany, The Queens Museum and more.
He has also been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and VOGUE Magazine. Furthermore, he is a founding member of Los Outsiders curatorial collective.
“In formal terms, my current work is an exploration of form and color. My work references the figure and explores these relationships utilizing basic geometric shapes,” Hernandez said. “My long history with mixed media and photography has driven my current work. I returned to traditional materials like paper, fabric, photographed images and fabricated artifacts to produce works that focus on the process of creating surreal characters/creatures.”
