Border car culture rides and glides at Laredo College

Whether it’s your primo ride or primo glide, Laredo College invites everyone in the community to the Laredo College International Car Show sponsored by Gonzalez Auto Parts at the LC South Campus on April 20. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will once again see some of the sleekest, classic and unforgettable rides from our area’s car enthusiasts.

The car show celebrates a brilliant display of cars and kites throughout our community in this stunning event of vehicular showmanship. With kids frolicking through our grounds, string in hand and kites majestically gliding through the air, our parking lot is sure to be a visual treat with over 200 cars, trucks and bikes.

The festival is free and open to the public. Laredo College student organizations will host food booths for guests to visit and purchase some delicious food. Supporting the student organizations helps them with fundraising toward their plans and goals for the semester.

Local car clubs and associations are invited and encouraged to participate as the festival car show will see 30 award categories, each with a first and second place award. These categories are varied and will encompass categories such as classic rides, street rod, low riders and kids’ power wheels.

With so much fun packed into a Saturday, LC is proud to celebrate the partnership with Jo Gage of Gonzalez Auto Parts as the International Car Show’s first-ever sponsor. With Laredo steeped in a grandiose car culture that goes back decades, the college is proud to offer programs aligned with automotive technology.

“There is a lot of families that come together at the car show walking together. The sons, daughters, mothers and fathers working on their vehicles together,” Gage said. It is an honor to be family business blessed to be here for 90 years. Everyone takes pride in their vehicles and in showcasing them throughout generations.”

Gage added that he encourages more people to take part in the automotive field, especially those who already take great pride in caring for their vehicle. Between the enjoyment involved in vehicle maintenance, the car club culture that always gives back to its community and how vehicles impact our local economy, a career in the automotive field is a great choice for members of our community.

The Transportation Technology Department offers Automotive Technology, Automotive Collision and Repair Technology, Diesel Engine Mechanics and Repair programs for all who are interested. The car show is a great incentive to allow students to learn the many different ways that participating vehicles can be worked on, recreated and more.
