There is no stopping the LC Valorant team as they move forward to the National Junior College Athletic Association Esports (NJCAAE) National Championship Valorant Tournament Finals. Four teams went head-to-head in a single elimination tournament and our Palominos are vying an undefeated victory.
The Palominos defeated Bergen Community College and will now face off against Brookdale Community College on Thursday, April 25 at 6 p.m. To support our team and cheer them on, check out their Twitch channel at www.twitch.tv/laredocollege_esports.
Team members include:
- Jonathan “Boogie” Nieto studying for an Electrical Technology Journeyman Electrician Assistant Certificate
- Eduardo “Soerz” Garza studying Computer Engineering
- Daniel “Yuqii” Alcorta studying Business Administration
- Emiliano “Kurinki” Godina studying Business Administration
- Hector “Valt” Rico studying for a General Studies Associate of Arts
As team captain, Nieto said that much of the success is directly tied to the dedication each member has to the team. Between the long hours of practice, studying and always putting their best efforts into both school and the game, he said that they intend to win undefeated.
“The team has worked so hard to get to where we are,” Nieto said. “Winning regionals was exciting but we always tell each other the job is not done yet. We are motivated to win it all while undefeated.”
They will be relying on their teammates, precision aim, resource management and reaction time to ensure the win. LC is proud of their dedication to being the best in the nation and continuously looks for new ways to provide resources they can take advantage of as members of the LC Esports team. This includes powerful computers, a dedicated manager, an enthusiastic game caster and the LC Esports Arena.
“The Esports Arena is vital to our athletes as it offers a dedicated space designed specifically for competitive gaming,” LC Director of Esports and Recreation Ivan Cano said about the newest addition for our Esports amenities. “It provides an environment optimized for concentration and performance, free from distractions. Additionally, it fosters a sense of community among players, promoting teamwork and camaraderie. Having access to this specialized facility enhances the overall esports experience for our athletes, contributing to their success and development in game and in their academic life.”
Ultimately, the goal is to provide our students with the connections to find opportunities and take their skills to the next level. With a strong esports community supporting them, talented coaches and staff, key networking opportunities and an abundance of love toward gaming, the LC Esports team is on the path to becoming bigger, stronger and better.
In speaking for the team, Nieto added that he thanks the school, Cano and their family for their continuous support. For those interested in joining the team, tryouts are held at the beginning of the spring and fall semester.
