Playing for a purpose: LC and IBC hosting lotería fundraiser for cancer patients

Laredoans can enjoy lively entertainment and community spirit at the upcoming “Cartas con Causa,” a lotería night on Friday, Sept. 6.

The special fundraiser event, co-hosted by Laredo College and International Bank of Commerce (IBC), will be held at the LC Ft. McIntosh Campus Maravillo Gym from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Admission is free and open to the community.

Different-priced lotería cards will be sold, and prizes include Keurig coffee makers, microwaves, toaster ovens, AirPods, 32-inch TVs, spa gift baskets valued at $150 and more.

All funds raised will benefit the MD Anderson Cancer Center’s ongoing efforts to advance cancer treatment and research. U.S. News and World Report recognizes MD Anderson as the nation’s top hospital for cancer care. The center is renowned for its advanced treatment options, cutting-edge research and commitment to providing the best possible care for cancer patients.

As Laredo College continues its collaboration with IBC, we are proud of how events like these reflect our shared commitment to community and charitable causes.

“As IBC Bank continues their efforts to raise money and awareness of cancer, we are thrilled to have Laredo College students engaged in the cause,” said Gabriel Castillo, Corporate Marketing Director and Coordinator for the IBC Bank MD Anderson Cancer Research Center fundraising campaign throughout Texas and Oklahoma. “We see a light at the end of the tunnel with the great strides MD Anderson has taken in research and treatment for cancer. We are profoundly grateful to Dr. Minita Ramírez, the Laredo College staff and students for taking on this fundraising effort.”

Laredo College Student Life Director Pedro Rivera said guests can expect great fun and prizes. LC students will be actively involved by helping call out the cards, verify winners and create a welcoming environment for everyone in attendance.

“Join us for our lotería fundraiser in partnership with International Bank of Commerce to benefit MD Anderson. The prizes are fantastic, and all proceeds will go directly to supporting MD Anderson. We hope to see you there,” Rivera said.
