Laredo College is committed to fostering civic engagement among students and community members. As part of this student-led initiative, the Laredo College Student Government Association (SGA) will host a town hall meeting with candidates for LC Board of Trustees positions 4, 5 and 6 on Thursday, Oct. 17.
The event will take place at the Ft. McIntosh Campus Falcon Bank Executive Conference Center from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It will also be livestreamed on the college’s official YouTube channel:
www.youtube.com/@laredopalominos.
SGA officers will moderate the meeting, asking candidates questions focused on issues relevant to the LC family and the community. Candidates will engage directly with moderators; audience questions and cross-examination will not be included.

Key discussion topics will cover vision and leadership, student success and retention, governance and decision-making, technology and innovation and fiscal responsibility. Important issues such as affordable tuition, educational opportunities and the growing demand for technology in higher education will also be addressed.
LC Student Life Director Pedro Rivera emphasized the SGA’s commitment to encouraging democratic participation through voter registration initiatives on campus. He noted that registering students to vote is just the first step; informing them about candidates and their platforms is equally important.
“It’s important for our students, employees and community members to understand candidates’ visions for the college, as these can impact tuition, programs, academics and more,” he said. “The active participation of our student representatives in political discourse shows that they care about campus governance and the future of their alma mater. Democratic engagement is a right, and our students are ready to make their voices heard.”
