On Nov. 11, Laredo College hosted its annual Veterans Day Observance at the Pvt. David B. Barkley Cantu Veterans Memorial Chapel, located on the college’s historic Ft. McIntosh Campus. The event honors the brave men and women who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces throughout our nation’s history.
This year’s keynote address was delivered by David Garza, a decorated U.S. Army veteran and the Webb County Veterans Service Director. Garza has been instrumental in assisting veterans and their families, helping them navigate the complexities of accessing vital federal and state benefits and services.
His role as the Veterans Service Officer is deeply personal, reflecting his belief that veterans helping fellow veterans is one of the most effective ways to support those who have served. Garza’s leadership has made a significant impact in fostering strong relationships within the veteran community and advocating for the needs of veterans across Webb County.
The observance included the Presentation of Colors by the Martin High School JROTC and featured remarks by Garza and other distinguished guests.
Laredo College is proud to support military-affiliated students and their families year-round through its dedicated Veterans Services Office. The college provides assistance with applying for federal and state veteran educational benefits, obtaining military transcripts and navigating the admissions, advising and enrollment processes.

This commitment to veterans extends to the college’s Veterans Day Observance, offering an opportunity to reflect on the invaluable contributions of those who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
“Veterans Day is a time to reflect on the sacrifices and contributions that veterans have made in serving our nation and protecting our freedoms,” LC Veterans Services Director Albert Hernandez said. “Additionally, veterans have earned their educational benefits, and education is a powerful way to improve their earning potential throughout their career. Many veterans may not be aware that their dependents may also qualify for certain educational benefits.”
Hernandez encouraged any veteran, spouse, or child of a veteran who has questions about available educational benefits to contact the Laredo College Veterans Services Center at (956) 764-5768 or
veterans@laredo.edu for further assistance.
