LC Car Show returns with classic cars, future dreams

Nothing beats a day of hot rods, tuners, supercars and the occasional custom build wrapped by a show focused on helping students get their education. For over 10 years, the Laredo College Car Show has seen hundreds of participants rev up for education and will see them again on Saturday, April 12 at the LC South Campus starting from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

If the allure of participants’ pride and joy on display is not enough for the children, the car show will also host a kite festival starting at noon. The little ones can enjoy some time with their families, flying their kites sky high along with many others in what has been a grand sight for years.

“Car shows are a hub for automotive enthusiasts to connect, share their passion and build friendships,” LC Transportation Technology Department Chair Alfredo Garcia said. “Whether it’s discussing the latest modifications, sharing tips or simply admiring each other’s work, the sense of community is strong.”

As with every car show before it, every participant is making a difference in the lives of students. Funds raised from the car show go directly toward scholarships, helping students pursue their educational and career goals, Garcia said. Additionally, LC student organizations will be on-site selling refreshments and food items to fundraise for their organization’s benefit.

A staple in the institution’s slate of events, the LC Car Show is designed to be family-friendly, with activities and attractions for all ages. This makes it a great outing for families, where everyone can enjoy and learn more about the automotive world. Participants will also have a chance to receive a trophy from 28 categories, including seven top awards.

Far from the sole car show in Laredo, our culture and region are no strangers to automotive passion. The LC Transportation Technology Department allows those whose passion guides them toward a career in the automotive field.

“The car show is very special to the college and its students,” Garcia said. “With the help of the local car enthusiasts and culture, they are supporting the dreams and future of our future technicians.”
