AEP Texas Foundation renews commitment to education with two-year sponsorship of LC Fun Fest

The American Electric Power (AEP) Texas Foundation, a longtime supporter of education in the region, is reaffirming its commitment by pledging a $50,000, two-year sponsorship to support Laredo College’s Family Fun Fest and Musicale.

During a press conference held Jan. 15, AEP Texas External Affairs Manager Danny Treviño presented the donation on behalf of the foundation. He noted that for nearly a century, AEP Texas has been an integral part of the communities it serves. Its employees live and work locally and maintain deep, ongoing relationships with area organizations, civic groups and community leaders.

Established by American Electric Power in 2005, the AEP Texas Foundation provides resources for significant charitable investments in AEP communities, as well as select initiatives beyond AEP’s 11-state service area. The foundation prioritizes education from early childhood through higher education, with an emphasis on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

“On behalf of the AEP Texas Foundation, we are proud to serve as the title sponsor of the Laredo College Family Fun Fest for 2026 and 2027,” Treviño said. “This event brings families together, supports student organizations and directly advances our focus on education and enriching community life. By helping expand Fun Fest, we create hands on learning opportunities, strengthen student success and celebrate the vibrant culture and spirit of South Texas. Our AEP Texas employees are excited to be on site to engage with the community and showcase the work we do to serve them.”

The LC Family Fun Fest and Musicale has been a cherished annual tradition for nearly four decades, welcoming thousands of attendees each year for family-friendly entertainment, food and activities.

The event is part of Laredo’s monthlong Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) festivities. Activities include live music, dance performances, inflatable attractions, carnival rides, a petting zoo with exotic animals and more.

“As the host of one of Laredo’s largest annual family events, Laredo College is proud to announce this generous sponsorship from the AEP Texas Foundation, a longtime community partner that consistently supports education and student success,” Laredo College President Dr. Minita Ramírez said. “We are honored to continue this beloved tradition in collaboration with our partners at the WBCA to offer an event that brigs our community together.”

The 2026 LC Family Fun Fest and Musicale is slated for Saturday, Feb. 28 from 12-5 p.m. at the historic Ft. McIntosh Campus in downtown Laredo. Admission is free and open to the public.
