Valentine’s Day brings music, treats and community to Laredo College

Love is all you need for friends, family or a significant other to enjoy a weeklong celebration of Valentine’s Day at Laredo College. As both campuses filled with sweet songs through the generations, Palominos enjoyed the scent and taste of Valentine treats shared by LC departments and student organizations.

The college’s “Hearts and Hooves” event brought multiple organizations together to provide a variety of activities for students. Participants were greeted by LC Student Life with popcorn and mocktails, created scrapbooks with TACHE/MOVE Texas, relaxed and painted portraits of their loved ones and topped it all off with refreshing lemonade courtesy of the IMPACT student organization. Students also had the opportunity to take photos with a festive backdrop hosted by the LC Student Government Association.

With hearts racing throughout the week, the Recreation and Esports Department hosted an event that informed students about the resources available at both campus gyms. With helpful staff, well-equipped facilities, athletic courts and flexible schedules, students are always welcome to stay active. To commemorate the event and the atmosphere, students were encouraged to take photos to cherish their time at LC.

Those who call the library home were also treated to donuts and invited to fall in love with a new book. Students at both libraries participated in blind dates with books curated by library staff. Selections covered a wide range of genres, including fantasy, romance and mystery, and explored themes such as trust, mistakes and personal growth.

These Valentine’s Day celebrations are annual events that encourage students, staff and faculty to celebrate love for one another. The week also offers students an opportunity to appreciate their school, build school spirit and form friendships that will walk side by side throughout their Laredo College journey.
